January 2010 - Rotary Student of the Month PDF Print E-mail
Mike Cords, son of Fred Cords and the late Tonya Cords, was selected as the January Rotary Student of the Month. Mike was honored at a Rotary luncheon in January where he received a savings bond to put toward continuing education. Mike is a strong student which is evident by his high grade point average and his recognition on the Honor Roll every semester since his freshman year.

Mike’s favorite subjects in school are math, science, and English. This bodes well since Mike intends to pursue a career in the medical profession, even so far as becoming a surgeon someday. His academic accomplishments are a reflection of hard work and effort; a character trait that will help him reach this ambitious goal.

Mike Cords - Rotary Student of the Month for January 2010Mike is not only an outstanding student, but also an accomplished athlete. He has played four years of football, basketball, and come spring, four years of baseball. On the field, Mike shows the same kind of dedication and determination that he shows in the classroom. He is a hard worker, always striving to do his best, and more importantly, is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team. Although Mike plays all three sports, his favorite is baseball; where he plays first base. If the option presents itself he would love the opportunity to play college baseball.

When Mike is not working on his studies or practicing sports, he enjoys art. He is an accomplished drawer and has tried his hand at pottery as well as computer graphics. He has constructed quite the portfolio through the years in Mrs. Manville’s art classes. Mike, above all else, has outstanding character. He is one of the nicest young men you will ever meet. His relationships with his peers as well as the Bellaire staff prove that. He is quiet, but at the same time a leader by example –leadership he demonstrates as a member of the Student Council, and the school yearbook.

Mike’s accomplishments set him apart and make him a very deserving recipient for this award. Congratulations Mike! Good luck in all your future endeavors.
