Kennan Dawson seems to have an endless amount of energy that she chooses to use for the betterment of her school and community, which is just one of the reasons she has been selected as the December Rotary Student of the Month. Kennan is the daughter of Doug and Lorri Dawson and is a senior at Bellaire High School with an enviable 4.0 GPA. Her teachers comment that Kennan’s work ethic and thirst for knowledge make her a pleasure to have in the classroom. Just as impressive as her GPA is Kennan’s involvement and leadership in numerous activities both in and out of school. For the past three years she has assisted other students by volunteering in the Green Cord Tutoring Program.
Kennan is an integral part of the girls’ varsity basketball Team as well as being the National Honor Society Treasurer and a Student Council Representative. As a clarinetist in the band, she has earned seven 1st Division State Rankings at Solo and Ensemble competitions. It is not unusual to see Kennan running through town as a member of both the cross country and track teams. Her dedication helped earn a spot on the state-qualifying 4×800 meter relay team as well as 1st Team All-Conference honors for cross country.
In addition to her school activities, Kennan has taken 15 years of dance at Alden Dance Academy and is an altar server and lector at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. She has represented the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce and the Miss Bellaire Scholarship Program for several years as Young Miss Bellaire, Pre-Teen Miss Bellaire, Junior Miss Bellaire and Miss Bellaire 2106. While fulfilling these titles Kennan provided over 200 hours of community service.
Congratulations, Kennan, on your many achievements and your recognition as the December Rotary Student of the Month.
