May 2017 Rotary Student of the Month – Marlena Gorno


Congratulations to Marlena Gorno, Bellaire Rotary Student of the Month for May, 2017. Marlena is a well-rounded student, excelling in academics, athletics and the arts. Marlena maintains a 3.79 grade point average and her favorite subjects are English and pre-calculus.

Throughout her high school career, Marlena has demonstrated excellent leadership skills. As an athlete, Marlena has been named as a captain of both the volleyball and track teams.  Academically, Marlena is a member of the National Honors Society, serving as vice president of her chapter. Marlena was also voted homecoming queen by her peers.

Marlena also excels in the arts. She has danced at the Alden Dance Academy for the past 6 years. She also is a musician, playing percussion in the High School Band and singing one of the lead roles in the school musical. Marlena also volunteers as a tutor.  Marlena has a commitment to excellence in all of her activities and very strong leadership qualities.  She will be attending Ferris State University in the fall where she will be studying pharmacy.  All of this makes her a very deserving recipient of the Student of the Month Award!
