May Rotary Student of the Month: Sierra Butler

Sierra Butler, daughter of Rhonda Washburn, has been selected as the Rotary Student of the Month for May.  Sierra is an outstanding student which is seen through her inclusion in the Bellaire All A’s Honor Roll each semester and participation as an active member of the National Honors Society and Bellaire Green Cord Service Program.

Not only is Sierra a student who pushes herself in the classroom, but she also selflessly gives back to others as seen through her many hours of community service. Sierra continues to give back to her community through her participation in several volunteer projects within NHS to help those around us. This year alone, Sierra has donated over 140 hours of her time working with teachers and other school organizations.

Sierra finds great joy and personal satisfaction in assisting in the school’s tutoring program as well as her time spent in classrooms as a Teacher Academy student. Through this program, Sierra has assisted teachers within our community with planning, delivering, and proctoring lessons to younger students. The experiences and rewards of working with young students has allowed her passion of teaching to flourish.

Not only is Sierra a great student and community member, but she is a wonderful musician. Sierra has been a valuable member of our music program for four years, and is a three-year member of Solo & Ensemble.

In addition to all that she does for the school, Sierra enjoys reading and babysitting in her free time. She plans to attend Northwestern Michigan College in the fall to study education. Congratulations Sierra!
